Shit happens for no reason

Does our liberation rest in pain? One wonders when pain arrives, "What have I done to beget this?" But in that question lies the assumption that what goes around comes around. In a world that is full of chaos, where there appears little logic, the karmic cause-effect does not exist in the metaphysical realm. Nothing that goes around need necessarily come around. To think that there is coming and going around is to attribute a definite purpose to the world of metaphysical events. World and life has no purpose. But that is a hard truth for the mind to swallow; a mind that constantly seeks theories, explanations and makes meanings. The mind seeks many ways to cope with pain and the karma theory is one such coping mechanism. In words that one may find lighter to understand, "Shit happens to you and there is no karmic reason why it happened to you." You may have delivered shit to someone but that is no reason why it has come back. It happened and you were there.

Often I think we want to hold on to the 'what goes around comes around' maxim either because we're hurt about someone's actions, and we throw this at them, or because we're guilty and seek to be punished for our actions (so we can get brownie points for next time). Either which way, like you said, WE are not 'there'.

you turned the karma theory on its head :)
Umm so there is no purpose. Does that mean I can knock off anybody, just cause I feel like it. But something stops me from doing that. What is this something?

@Pallavi. Eggjactly.
@Flying Machine. I don't think I have turned the karma theory on its head with that one post. :) Well, if you want to knock off somebody just because you feel like it, you very well can. But the law is going to be behind your ass. However, there may be several reaons that stop you from doing that.
1. You are scared that the law is going to catch you
2. You are an empathetic person (innately)
3. You are conditioned to be empathetic
4. You are conditioned to believe in the karma theory
5. Or the anybody you want to knock off is so strong that you are afraid that you may get knocked off in return.

You get the drift.
